Handfasting Outdoor woodland wedding in Wales

Handfasting wedding in Wales | Penllergare Woods

Bea & Rhodri

Bea & Rhodri got engaged at a Pumpkin Patch last October and both love Autumn and the colours that nature shows off at that time of year. They both love the outdoors so decided to have a hand-fasting ceremony (on Halloween) in the woodland at Penllergare Vally Woods.

A Handfasting adds an extra layer of meaning to your wedding ceremony. It is an ancient Celtic ritual dating back to 7000 B.C and the ceremony is performed by a priest or celebrant and centres around the binding of the hands together, to symbolise two lives being entwined through their love. You do not need to be legally married to have a handfasting. Some couples choose to have a simple legal wedding ceremony and use handfasting as their more meaningful ceremony later that day or on another day, incorporating their spiritual beliefs.

Jenny, the women’s witch who is a trained celebrant with the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids officiated the ceremony. There was heartwarming singing and beautiful rituals which made it so personal for Bea and Rhodri. It was a first for me to witness a pinky promise to seal the vows instead of ‘I do’ 😀.  I love to photograph, witness and meet couples from all walks of life whose outlook on life, relationships and religion is personal to them.

Enjoy the beautiful moments below and get in touch if you are looking for an alternative wedding photographer to photograph your wedding story.
